Vendor Feature: Red & Brown, Harp & Thistle, Tess & James, and L+M Studio

What do these four vendors have in common? They make great teams! Sometimes entrepreneurship can feel a little lonely, but these pairs have got a supportive spouse or a fabulous friend at their side, taking the crazy, creative ride with them! Many of our vendors are dynamic duos…meet a few of them who make amazing things together…

Red & Brown, Poughkeepsie, NY

Drawing from their backgrounds in event planning, catering, consulting, and production, Lauren (“Red”) and Jake (“Brown”) offer party planning, cocktail development, and other consulting services—and of course, their line of “the most delicious, high-quality cocktail products [they] think you’ve ever tasted,” which they’ll be offering at Hullabaloo! Their current offering includes Bloody Mary Mixers, Smoked Campfire Maple Syrup (the only smoked syrup on the market!), and Sweet & Spicy cocktail nuts.  Red & Brown’s products are FANTASTIC gifts for any cocktail enthusiast on your list, and they make great hostess gifts too…Plus, you’ll also want to keep some provisions on hand for holiday entertaining, of course. We’re thrilled that Red & Brown will be joining us for Hullabaloo and bringing their products to Kingston! Stop by their table and try their Maple Egg Creams!

Harp and Thistle Stitchery, Poughquag, NY

Erin and Corey of Harp and Thistle are Irish (Harp) and Scottish (Thistle), respectively. Using an ancient rug-hooking technique called punch needle (or needle punch), Erin painstakingly creates her adorable ornaments, wall hangings, wearable art, sachets, and more. Then Corey frames them, takes photos, and ships sales! Just in time for Thanksgiving and the winter holidays, Erin is stocked with pieces featuring pumpkin pie, cornucopias, Christmas trees, Santas and more! There are also quirky and whimsical everyday pieces like sushi rolls, her signature avocados, pretzels, anatomical hearts, and “beards of Brooklyn,” plus more traditional pieces like flora and fauna, snowmen, and Scandinavian folk art. The best thing about Harp and Thistle’s work?  They’ve got such seemingly-random-yet-charming-things that make the perfect gift for all those quirky people on your list. Seriously, what else could you get your beekeeper friend besides a punch needle honeycomb hoop? Need a teacher gift? The Back to School Little Red School House, of course. Admiring Corey’s beard? Erin’s immortalized it in punch needle, so it can be yours forever! We’re pumped to have Erin and Corey back for their third Hullabaloo! Stop by their table and make it a good one!

Tess & James, Rhinebeck, NY

Tess& James began with oatmeal baths that founder Jess made for her kids (Tess and James, of course) who had dry skin. One thing led to another and she teamed up with her friend and neighbor Angela, to make bath porridges and salts, lip balms, face masks, candles, and more…all from the best ingredients, packaged in ways that make the products feel luxurious before you’ve even opened them! Their pampering bath products are a great way to relax during the stress of the holiday season, detox after you’ve indulged in too much cheer, and nourish your skin in the dry winter air. They’ve also got a ton of lip balms in kid-friendly flavors and cute packaging that will encourage your little ones to hydrate those chapped lips. Tess & James uses natural, organic, and therapeutic-grade ingredients that feel great and smell amazing. They make such a great presentation too, so pick up a couple of jars as gifts for someone you want to impress. This is Jess and Angela’s second Hullabaloo and we’re thrilled to have them back! 

l+m studio, Catskill, NY

Lucie and Meg are L+M studio, makers of slip cast porcelain items for the home and garden. From their own recipe, they make white porcelain and design, make, glaze, and fire the pieces in their store-front in Catskill. The coolest thing about their work is that (while their sleek, modern aesthetic suggests otherwise) function trumps form. They set out to make containers and inhabitants for living things, and those living things are going to be mighty comfortable. Their birdhouses have a flanged lid for cleaning. Their cups are designed to actually be held by hands and drunk from by lips. Their vases and planters are designed to show off the natural beauty they contain. But what they’re most excited about? Their new noodle bowls! We CAN’T WAIT to slurp some ramen out of one of those beautiful vessels! Need a thoughtful gift for someone who loves minimal design, clean lines, AND noodles? Vendor Feature: Liz Clark Jewelry, Virginia Piazza Pottery, The Hudson Standard, and Matt Pleva

This bunch of fantastic Hullabaloo vendors includes the award-winner for the furthest drive to Hullabaloo (if there was such an award), a third year Hullabaloo veteran, a Hullabaloo newbie, and a hometown favorite!  They should all be able to help you knock a few more gifts off your holiday list, so learn a little more about them and click on their links to start getting some ideas!

Liz Clark Jewelry, Providence, RI

In her metal studio in Providence, RI, Liz uses floral and geometric elements with simple lines and silhouettes to create a subtle-but-striking collection of earrings, necklaces, rings, and brooches. Her work has a sculptural feel, yet her pieces are delicate, unobtrusive, and comfortable to wear. The organic elements of her work lend a classic feel and timeless elegance to balance the modern edge of the shapes and materials used in her unique jewelry.  Whether you’re looking want an un-fussy brooch for a classy lady on your list, a unique statement necklace for New Year’s, or a gorgeous pair of studs for a trendy teen, Liz has the perfect piece! It’s her first Hullabaloo and she’s making a long drive to join us, so give her a warm welcome! 

Virginia Piazza Pottery, Beacon, NY

As soon as Virginia started working with clay, she knew it was her medium! After experimenting with different firing techniques and types of pieces, Virginia now focuses on functional ware, mostly with porcelain in a limited glaze palette; lately, though, she’s been incorporating some neat embellishments. Her work is clean, simple, and charmingly understated, with a muted color palette and comforting, functional shapes. Her mission is to make work that speaks to the user and finds a special place in their everyday life. Virginia’s work somehow feels both familiar and completely fresh, bringing to mind breakfasts on summer porches and cool nights spent in warm places!  Her bowls, mugs, vases, pots, sugar bowls, nesting bowls, berry bowls, and serving dishes make great gifts for so many occasions. Virginia has been with us from the beginning, so please join us in welcoming her back to Hullabaloo!

The Hudson Standard, Hudson, NY

Using traditional processes that date back to colonial times, The Hudson Standard hand-crafts cocktail bitters and shrubs (deliciously tart syrups made of fruit, spices, vinegar, and sweetener) that are creating delicious cocktails, sodas, foods, and sauces in top-notch regional restaurants and in homes nationwide. Their products highlight the flavors of the Hudson Valley (think Apple Coriander Maple Shrub and Spruce Shooter Bitters, for starters) and work with NYS farms to source the best ingredients. Doesn’t a nice fall cocktail (like the Pear Honey Ginger Shrub with rum, gin, or bourbon!) with Thanksgiving dinner sound like a good idea? Stop by The Hudson Standard’s table at their first Hullabaloo and pick up some of their products for the home bartender or chef on your list...and some for yourself!

Matt Pleva, Kingston, NY

If Matt Pleva’s intricate work looks familiar, it’s because he was one of the muralists whose work was part of the O+ Festival last year!  On a smaller scale (pretty small, actually) he creates these incredible dioramas, illustrations, and miniature pen and ink drawings, and turns them into wearable art (buttons, earrings, pendants) and display pieces. He takes his inspiration from his vast range of interests including history and pop culture—so you’ll find tiny scenes from Dr. Who, Monty Python, Office Space, Star Trek, The Wizard of Oz and more, as well as historical “reenactments” in pen and ink! He also offers a large selection of prints, cards, and postcards.  Have a favorite movie moment you’d like him to recreate in paper? He does commissions! Vendor Features: Berkshire Bakes, Etude Pottery, Weird Beard Candle Co., and CeCe’s Wool

Our Third Annual Hullabaloo is our biggest yet—we’ve made room for 15 more vendors than we had last year, and we’re welcoming 40 first-time Hullabaloo vendors (out of 73 total) this year! Below, you’ll learn more about four Hullabaloo newbies, and why we wanted to make them a part of this year’s event!

Berkshire Bakes, Pittsfield, MA

Hullabaloo is just a few days before Thanksgiving, and who has time to bake? Let Berkshire Bakes do it for you! Berkshire Bakes is a small-batch, hand-made baking company, with a scrumptious offering including cookies, croissants, scones, muffins, pies, cupcakes, and other desserts. Their goodies are pre-packaged and ready to bring with you to Thanksgiving dinner, surprising someone special with a treat, or bringing home for later (see if they make it past Broadway!). Remember Mighty Brittle from last year, with those amazing little pies and the perfect brittle? Well, Mighty Brittle has combined with Berkshire Bakes (and what a combination it is!) so you can still get that brittle you’ve been craving all year, along with lots of other yummy things. Are you GF? Many of Berkshire Bakes’ items are available in gluten-free versions, because they believe that everyone deserves to enjoy handmade desserts! So stop by and say hello to Ashley of Berkshire Bakes and welcome her to her first Hullabaloo—you won’t be able to walk away empty-handed! 

Etude Pottery, Troy, NY

Dana (“Etsy admin by day, potter by night”) uses a b-mix porcelain to create her unique, functional pottery that will make that will make every day more special! Whether you start your day with a big ‘ol mug of coffee in one of Dana’s mugs, eat your dinner out of an Etude bowl, end your day surrounded by her lovely home décor pieces, or all three (lucky you!), Dana’s unique pieces make your routine feel like a luxury. All her pieces are thrown on the wheel and altered, and all her stamped designs are created using stamps she’s created herself—the results are unique pieces that she then glazes with hand-mixed, food-safe glazes. Her mugs, cups, bowls, and more make great gifts—I mean, can you think of a better gift for that hard-to-buy-for person than a beautiful piece they’ll use and love every.single.day (because they will!)? Weird Beard Candle Co., Troy, NY

Remember what Saturday mornings used to smell like, back before Saturdays were for grocery shopping and yard work? Weird Beard Candle Co.’s “Saturday Morning Cartoons” candle will make you nostalgic for the days when you could sit around in your pajamas eating Crunch Berry cereal and watching Duck Tales! They’ve got lots of amazing scents—all small-batch, hand-poured, clean-burning, all-natural soy candles –that bring back memories, smell fantastic, and fit the Weird Beard motto: “stay weird.”  Just in time for Turkey Day, there’s “The One with All the Thanksgiving” (if cranberry, peach, apple, orange, and vanilla is weird, we don’t want to be normal). “Maplicious Bacon” (always a winning combination), “The Handicapper” (tobacco scented), or “The Winner’s Circle” (rose and leather) would be subtle (but appreciated!) hints for your guy to air out the man cave, while scents like “Mega Mandarin” (bright and citrusy) or “Uncle Ricky’s Chocolate Cream Pie” (no explanation needed) will get anyone’s mouth watering. CeCe’s Wool, Delanson, NY

Got a furry friend? Stop at CeCe’s Wool’s table—it’s the perfect spot to get gifts for your best friend! CeCe’s Wool offers pet toys and beds filled with wool, and cat toys filled with catnip from her farm. CeCe’s takes her commitment to the environment and local farms seriously, using only wool from happy, healthy sheep she knows personally, and using local mills that practice eco-friendly processing methods. And because wool is warm in the winter and cool in the summer, lasts a long time, and naturally repels dust, dirt, microbes, and bacteria, it’s the natural choice for pet products.
