Sponsor Shout-Out: 1 Mile Gallery Putting the (fine) Arty in our Party!

We’re pleased as punch that 1 Mile Gallery is bringing the arty in our party to a whole new level!

1 Mile represents both emerging and established fine artists working in a variety of mediums and disciplines, including illustration, wood and stone, photography, and more. They regularly feature work from local artists as well as the work of artists from around the world. This small-city gallery is big on talent that manages to be both accessible and thought-provoking, down-to-earth yet visionary, and simultaneously worldly and inherently “Kingstonian.”

After you’ve shopped Hullabaloo for unique giftable items from local designers, craftspeople, and makers, head down to 1 Mile at 475 Abeel Street on the Rondout in Kingston to wander the 18th century building and admire their current exhibits.  They also have a great online shop, where you can purchase artwork from selected artists. Learn more about their upcoming shows and shop online at www.onemilegallery.com.

We’re psyched about having 1 Mile on board as a sponsor, and excited about the opportunity to work together to connect the dots between the local fine arts scene and the Hudson Valley’s handmade movement. Thanks putting the (fine) arty in our party, 1 Mile!

Bust a Move: DJ Mr. Chips Returns to Hullabaloo!

HECK YES!!! This is a family-friendly event, so we’ve toned down the language, but we are SO flippin’ excited…

…DJ Mr. Chips has agreed to spin for us at the Second Annual Hudson Valley Hullabaloo!

DJ Mr. Chips, aka Andrew Nelson, is one of our personal favorite DJ’s, who plays at a bunch of local bars and events. Everyone had so much fun last year (and since he agreed pretty quickly to come back, we’re guessing so did he!) that we were keeping our fingers crossed that he was available—so we were thrilled when he agreed to keep the party going for us on both days at this year’s event!

Once again, he’ll be spinning old-school hip-hop, holiday soul, and indie rock, and the Hullabaloo winter bear will be shaking his groove thang.

Like us with our language, DJ Mr. Chips is toning down his musical selections to keep the Hullabaloo soundtrack family-friendly and, of course, mix in a lot of holiday soul music to put shoppers in the holiday spirit—but keeping it fresher and funkier than any mall soundtrack!

This is going to be so stinkin’ rad. See you there!

Announcing the 2014 Hudson Valley Hullabaloo!

Last year was pretty dope, right?

Then get ready, we’re about to blow your minds…

This year’s Hullabaloo will be held on Saturday, November 22nd (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.) AND Sunday, November 23rd (11 a.m. – 5 p.m.).  You spoke, and we listened. That’s right—get ready to Hullabaloo with us ALL. WEEKEND. LONG!

Our (NEW) venue this year is The Andy Murphy Midtown Neighborhood Center at 467 Broadway (corner of Broadway and Hoffman St.) in the hip-and-happening Kingston, NY.

We’re super-excited about this huge, well-maintained venue in a high-traffic area, with great visibility in a cool neighborhood that’s reinventing itself. We’ll even be able to double our number of vendors to offer even more variety of unique, giftable items, and we’ll have lots of room for family-friendly fun!

The Center has an interesting history and great bones—high ceilings, a stage, tons of windows, a nice open layout, and a grand entrance. Originally a New York State Armory, the Neighborhood Center was designed by J.A. Wood (an American Institute of Architects award-winning architect), and built around 1880. Wood’s credits include many hotels, armories, and public buildings in the Kingston/Poughkeepsie area (the old Stuyvesant Hotel in Kingston, the Newburgh Free Library, and several buildings on the Vassar campus) as well as in NYC and Florida.

As an armory, the Center was visited by a queen of the Netherlands, during her visit to our Dutch-influenced city! It’s been a venue for world-class boxing events including some of boxing legend and local hero Billy Costello’s most important fights. It’s also hosted basketball games, concerts, dances, and community events like hobby shows and senior’s and children’s programs.  In 2008, it was renamed after the late Andy Murphy, who served as the city’s Parks and Recreation Superintendent for 28 years.

We love that all our vendors will be in the same open, light-filled, toasty space this year, don’t you?

If it’s good enough for a queen and a champion, it’s Hullabaloo Bear-approved!  Check back for updates. We can’t wait to Hullabaloo with you!

Want to join us? Applications are open until October 6th, 2014, so get on it!
