Meet our makers! Hodge Podge Farm, Catskill Rock and Chain, Mighty Brittle, JK Custom Furniture and Design, Tess & James, and Lindsay Hutton Designs.

Hodge Podge Farm – Hodge Podge Farm is designer Cal Patch’s line of handmade clothing which includes crocheted hats and cowls, hand-dyed silk and wool scarves, clothing, and accessories. Cal has worked as a designer for Urban Outfitters, run her own shop in Brooklyn, and taught at MAKE workshop, a hipster craft school that she co-founded. Now, from her Accord, NY studio, Cal writes articles and books on crafting and does freelance design work for various clothing companies, artists, museums, and advertising clients. She also teaches multiple crafts at various locations in New York, so stop by her table and ask about her schedule. This is Cal’s second year at Hullabaloo and we’re thrilled to have her back!

Catskill Rock and Chain Rebecca’s jewelry uses sterling silver, gems and minerals, and found objects to create simplistic designs that are timeless and classic, but with a touch of vintage/industrial flair. Her rings and necklaces compliment any style, and make great gifts! Rebecca is from Kingston and is new to Hullabaloo—we’re excited to have her!

Mighty Brittle Karden from New Lebanon has succeeded in his quest for a better brittle. Made with real Hudson Valley maple syrup and organic cane sugar (no corn syrup here!), this small-batch brittle is crunchy (not sticky!) and made with pecans (not peanuts) for a richer, nuttier taste. The flavors are delightfully untraditional too: espresso-cacao, orange, maple, chai, and cayenne…try them broken over ice cream. O.M.G.

JK Custom Furniture and Design Joining us from Great Barrington, MA, Josh and Kristen are bringing their home accessories (including cutting boards, cheese and serving trays, cutlery holders, candle holders, and lighting, as well as table linens and aprons) to Hullabaloo! Josh got his start in carpentry and craftsmanship building theatre, film, and TV sets before focusing his energies on gorgeously-crafted cabinets, furniture, and smaller wood pieces. They describe their work as “innovative and versatile” pieces that “add character, warmth, and an element of design to your home.” Thanks for joining us for your first Hullabaloo, Josh and Kristen!

Tess & James Based in Rhinebeck, Tess and James make natural, organic, therapeutic-grade bath and body products that will help you detox after too much holiday indulging, relax after too much holiday hoopla, and rehydrate from the dry winter air! They offer bath salts, lip balms, bath porridges, muddy face masks, and other nourishing goodies in packaging as fresh and delightful as their ingredients. This is their first Hullabaloo, so give them a warm welcome!

Lindsay Hutton Designs – Lindsay joins us for her second Hullabaloo from right here in Kingston, with her beautiful candleholders made from copper pipes and other natural elements.  These unique home accessories make great gifts and fit right in with any décor.  Stop and see Lindsay’s work, available in many sizes and designs!

Hullaba-Baller: The Winter Bear’s Big Break Leaves Us Bearless

Folks, we have some disappointing news. We’ve just received an email from MC Fresh-n-Frosty, formerly known as The Hullabaloo Winter Bear. It seems that his rap career has really taken off in Europe…Which is great news for him, but bad for us. He’s touring the Alps starting next weekend, and has to leave his beloved Hudson Valley behind, at least for this season. He tells us they’ve set him up with a sweet chalet and he’s writing some ill rhymes as we speak. He’s got an entourage of St. Bernards and a posse full of yodelers. Check it, yo. (Or, should we say “Check it yodel-ay-he-hoo.” Sorry, couldn’t resist.)

Luckily, Anna and the Winter Spirits will be stepping in to fill the void The Winter Bear (ummm, we mean MC Fresh-n-Frosty) has left in our photo booth and in our hearts. We wish him well and hope that he doesn’t forget the little people. Maybe he’ll come back for a hometown tour, kicking off at Hullabaloo 2015?

(That’s our story and we’re sticking to it. Only the people who were with our snowy-white friend on Halloween know the truth. Sorry to disappoint you!)

2014 Hullabaloo: Learn more about a few of our makers!

Gray Works Design –Returning vendor Andrew Gray is from Woodstock, NY, where he makes his press-worthy Footed Platte™ cutting boards (you may recognize them from features in Martha Stewart’s Whole Living, Dwell Magazine, and Apartment Therapy), as well as small furniture, bowls, and other accessories.  He uses native-species materials from local sources (along with plant-derived, heavy metal drier-free, zero VOC finishes) to create his beautiful non-toxic, FDA-rated food-safe products. Perfect gifts for the gourmet!

Beacon Knits – Beacon Knits is based in Beacon (obviously) and will be offering lots of cool and cozy hats at Hullabaloo! This talented maker is inspired by combining different fibers, textures, and colors, stitch-by-stitch, into a functional three-dimensional hat, and feels that the colors and fibers chosen suggest a stitch and shape. The hat, she says, is just a response to the materials chosen.  All her hats are beautifully finished, inside and out, and very durable. Show someone you love them by giving them the gift of warmth this winter!

Dream Threads Jared’s dream catchers are a modern twist on the traditional Native American talisman—weaving in beads and found objects, his unique pieces remind us of a combination of a gorgeous spider web and a bird’s nest carefully crafted from colorful scraps and shiny treasures. This Kingston-based maker’s unique pieces are sure to ward off bad dreams and are a thoughtful gift for anyone who could use a peaceful night’s sleep or just a bit of inspired decor!

Virginia Piazza Pottery – Virginia taught ceramics for 15 years and now focuses on making her line of handmade stoneware and porcelain pots.  Simple, elegant, and functional, her work is perfect for serving food and displaying flowers.  Virginia lives and works in Beacon, and is a returning Hullabaloo vendor!

Sand and Solder Atsuko and Ashley are based in Kingston, NY, and will be joining us for their first Hullabaloo! They make earrings and pendants using a Japanese enameling technique that allows for more color than other metal smith techniques. Truly unique, these pieces have an organic aesthetic that remind us of sea urchins and other beautiful beings. Elegant and striking, they fit any personal style and make great gifts!

KnitSquid Fiber Arts Eliza hand-knits her friendly forest of fiber animals in Pittsfield, MA. Lions and sheep, pink elephants and wooly mammoths, big-earred foxes and purple octopuses, and many, many more critters will be looking for homes for the holidays, and we know you won’t be able to resist! This is KnitSquid’s first Hullabaloo, so help us welcome her and her creatures!
