vendors

Vendor Feature: Rockerbox Spice Co., Sawkill Farm, Mavis Studio, and Hodge Podge

We’re sorry you had to wait till the end to hear about these vendors…but we bet you met some other cool people while you waited, right? This is our biggest, best year yet and we absolutely can’t wait to bring all these fantastic people together for your shopping pleasure in just a few days! In the meantime, read a little more about the last four amazing Hullabalooers to be featured on the blog!

Rockerbox Spice Co., Hudson, NY

Rama’s roots (nope, this isn’t another bad pun—garlic is a bulb, silly!) trace back to four generations of garlic growers (check out the photo on her website of the garlic planter her grandfather brought over from Sicily!). This lineage has not only provided her with an appreciation of the stinking rose, but also access to fantastic, locally-grown garlic! Turning a family tradition into an innovative business for herself, Rama began creating garlic and onion powders, and savory mixes like Fiesta, Italian, BBQ, Sweet Corn rub, and gift sets! She dehydrates and grinds the bulbs herself, which makes her product FAR superior than anything you’ll find in the grocery store. Plus, she’s got a talented palate to help her come up with great flavor combinations. Her beautifully packaged spices are fantastic gifts for gourmets, hostesses, and anyone on your list who could use a little spice in their life! They make GREAT stocking stuffers too! This is Rama’s second Hullabaloo and we can’t wait to visit her and stock our pantry with flavor! You should too!

Sawkill Farm, Red Hook, NY

Along with her family, Kallie of Sawkill Farm raises cows, pigs, sheep, and chickens for meat, which they sell at their farm store and at farmers’ markets in NYC. They try to utilize as much of the animal as possible, leaving as little waste as they can—to that end, they’ve developed a line of beef tallow-based soaps that they make and package on the farm, plus sheep skins, and yarn produced completely from their own wool! We’re big proponents of the nose-to-tail concept, so we’re so thrilled to be welcoming Sawkill Farm to their first Hullabaloo, where they’ll be selling these products! Their soaps are made from 100% natural, local ingredients, using traditional processes with leaf lard and beef tallow as the basis. They don’t use any preservatives, artificial ingredients, or other junk in their soaps, and they’re GORGEOUSLY packaged to make perfect “little something” gifts or stocking stuffers. Their sheep skins are all one-of-a-kind, because they raise different wool breeds. What do you use sheep skins for? Well, just about anything, really!  Add interest to a couch or comfort to a chair, use it as an area rug (they are soil-resistant!), add an extra layer of warmth at the foot of your bed, or even use it as a funky table runner (trust us, we saw some pretty cool pics on some design blogs)! Google it for inspiration, then head to Sawkill Farm’s table and bring your sheep skin vision to life!

Mavis Studio, Asbury Park, NJ

We just LOVE Mavis Studio’s earthy, minimal, clean, and modern housewares, like wood planters, plant stands, air plant holders, candle holders, furniture, and textiles. With their signature pops of color and elegant lines, her work is somehow colorful yet neutral, fitting in perfectly with any type of décor. Her pieces make perfect gifts for hostesses, friends, co-workers, family, and anyone who loves fresh, modern design combined with practical functionality. Stephanie has a background in architecture and design, and has applied that to express herself through creating beautiful, usable objects with her own hands. This is Stephanie’s first Hullabaloo and we’re so glad to have her participating! Stop by and see what she’s got for the plant-lover or décor enthusiast on your list this holiday season!

Hodge Podge, Accord, NY

Cal Patch, a designer who’s worked for Urban Outfitters, run her own shop in Brooklyn, and helped found hipster craft school MAKE, now focuses on writing articles and books on crafting, doing freelance design work for some pretty impressive clients, and teaching crafts at various locations in New York (often on how to make your own clothes). Hodge Podge is her line of handmade clothing which includes crocheted hats, cowls, hand-dyed silk and wool scarves, clothing, and accessories. She also has giftable items like cozies and will be showing off her new journal covers, Altoid tin sewing kits, wrist warmers, and blanket plaid hoody ponchos at Hullabaloo! Her style is a colorful patchwork (see what we did there?) of funky, bohemian, colorful hipness and it’s all comfy and completely wearable. Stop by Cal’s table at her third Hullabaloo and ask about her class schedule too! We’re so psyched she’s back!

vendors

Vendor Feature: PetitFelts, Good Fight Herb Co., Lock & Key Leathers, Jewels by JaimeLynn, and Lovefield Vintage

We’ve worked hard to curate an event that offers something for everyone—for everyone on your gift list, for anyone’s budget, and to cater to many different tastes and interests. These five Hullabalooers are great examples of the diversity in our vendors…Whether you’re looking for a super-special gift for a new baby’s nursery, want to encourage a healthier lifestyle, need a present for a restless traveler, want to give a piece of everyday elegance, or are looking mix up your wardrobe with some timeless articles of clothing, Hullabaloo has got a vendor for you!

PetitFelts, Copake, NY

Jocelyn hand-dyes and needle-felts little critters with big personalities! She puts a ton of love into every one, carefully sculpting them into realistic miniatures and giving each an expression and a story (Gertrude the Octopus used to terrorize ships, but she’s given that up to lead underwater tours; Rimbaud the swan wants you to know he’s more than just his graceful good looks!). Jocelyn’s animals are accurate down to every last detail and fascinating to admire. Her pieces can be used as finger puppets and are great for interacting with children of all ages. However, they are also delicate artwork and some even have tiny party hats, so it’s best to consider them more decorative than playthings. Sit them on a shelf and they can be enjoyed for years to come! In addition to the finger puppet pieces, Jocelyn makes brooches (which can also serve as ornaments or be mounted on the wall like tiny, felted taxidermy) and has added mobiles to her line. This is Jocelyn’s first Hullabaloo and we are so thrilled to have her and help her charming creatures find good homes!

Good Fight Herb Co., Germantown, NY

With some help from their “medicinal herbs for mighty health,” Lauren of Good Fight Herb Co. reassures you that “you are good medicine.” An herbalist, healer, and educator, Lauren grows, gathers, and sources the organic herbs used in her blends, sprays, tonics, tinctures, and other natural remedies. She’s got the solution for whatever ails you—whether you’re broken-hearted (Self-Love Potion #9), are battling anxiety during a difficult time (Deep Breath De-Stress Blend), need a good night’s sleep (Sleep Tight), or are battling the sniffles (Kick a Cold Blend).  She’s also got some little items that can be packaged with her remedies for a great gift! Want to bring an ailing friend something better than chicken soup? Wrap up Lauren’s Kick a Cold Blend with a handmade hanky! Somebody need a little reminder to take their medicine? A medicine shot pot, made custom for Good Fight, pairs perfectly with any potion! This is Good Fight’s first Hullabaloo, so stop by to stay well!

Lock & Key Leathers, Kingston, NY

Crystal of Lock & Key Leathers considers each of her bags a story…from how the bag drapes when it’s held to where she sources her materials—so much goes into each piece that sometimes she dreams all night about making patterns, or is up at night worrying about details like how long to make the handles of a new tote. The love and attention to detail that goes into each of Crystal’s bags is apparent in the fine workmanship and beautiful designs. Made of leather and waxed canvas, much of her work is intentionally well-loved-looking, because they’re made for adventurers with wanderlust. Whether it’s a ruggedly luxurious tote, a distressed cross-body bag, a beautifully battered wallet, a wonderfully worn clutch, or some other accessory, your new favorite will feel like an old, familiar favorite. She’s been collaborating with her husband too, and he’s now tooling his artwork on some of Crystal’s pieces, to make them extra-special!  The best part? The more you use them, the more character they collect. It’s Crystal’s third Hullabaloo and we’re so glad she’s been with us from the beginning.

Jewels by JaimeLynn, Delmar, NY

We love Jaime’s delicate, feminine jewelry, which she describes as “simple jewelry for everyday, graceful wear” that are designed to enhance your natural beauty. Using high-quality gemstones and precious metals, Jaime has added gold to her line since last year, when she primarily worked in silver. Jaime’s work is refreshingly uncomplicated, allowing the beauty of the materials to really shine through. We LOVE her stackable gemstone bar bracelets, and her understated necklaces that are perfect for layering. Wouldn’t any lady on your shopping list love to find a box from Jewels by JaimeLynn in her stocking? We know we would! You can’t go wrong with her versatile pieces that look great on anyone, no matter what their style! We’re so happy to have Jaime back!

Lovefield Vintage, Kingston, NY

Imagine the best styles and pieces from every era…What do you see? The racks of Lovefield Vintage? Because that’s what comes to mind for us! What are you coveting right now? Darbie just might have it—or can find it! Everything on Lovefield’s racks is there because Darbie loves it (not just because it’s old) and has a vision for how it can be mixed with other finds from various periods and styles.  Darbie’s collection is so carefully curated and she’s got such an eye for picking out unique pieces and putting them together with other awesome things! She’s got everything from 60s cocktail frocks to 90s ruffled baby doll blouses—and men’s stuff too, like well-worn denim, vintage tees and flannels…Shoes, jewelry, and other accessories have a place on her shelves too. We’re thrilled to have Darbie back for her second Hullabaloo, and we can’t wait to see what she’s found for us this year!

vendors

Vendor Feature: Cynla, KnitSquid Fiber Arts, Pterodactyl Pottery, and Fleurs Jolies

These vendors know that “what’s old is new again,” that traditional processes and simpler times have a place in our speed-of-light world, and that…well, dinosaurs are cool! Meet a stationer whose cards remind us to slow down, a fiber artist creating critters using some of the world’s oldest crafting techniques, a jewelry maker with an appreciation for history and its remnants, and a potter of vessels with timeless appeal (and a kick-butt name!).

Cynla, Newburgh, NY

Cindy’s noble mission is to inspire her customers and the recipients of her hand-illustrated greeting cards to keep in touch, celebrate ALL the special moments in life (big and small), and to stress less! Her casual invites are the perfect way to prompt a brunch date, suggest going out for cheeseburgers, schedule a stitch and bitch, or even get together to brag about your pets!  She’s also expanded her offering of get well, sympathy, new baby, and birthday cards, added new holiday cards, and created new paper products like gift tags, enclosure cards, and a calendar! We’re so glad to have Cindy of Cynla returning for her third Hullabaloo…Her detailed, whimsical, playful cards just make us happy (and, actually, a little less stressed!)!

KnitSquid Fiber Arts, Pittsfield, MA

Stop whatever you’re doing and take a look at this magnificent dragon Eliza from KnitSquid Fiber Arts made! Since last year, Eliza has added some new hand-knit animals to her herd and she’s also experimenting with needle felting to add unique features to her critters (take a closer look at that dragon).  Whether you’re looking to take home a pink elephant, a wooly mammoth, a big-earred fox, a purple octopuses, a lazy sloth, a long-necked giraffe, or something even more exotic (like the dragon), Eliza’s creatures have character and craftsmanship that will ensure you’ve got a friend for life! She’s also launching a new line of small cat toys, inspired by her cat, Clyde!  We’re so happy to have Eliza and her critters back for their second Hullabaloo—say hello, but be prepared to never say goodbye, because we KNOW you’ll be bringing a KnitSquid critter home for the holidays!

Fleurs Jolies, Olivebridge, NY

Maya’s unique earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, pins, and bobby pins use elements of bygone eras—(think buttons from the 40s, hand-dyed acetate pieces from the 50s, vintage brass stampings, antique beads, old license plates and more) as well as modern elements (like Swarovski crystals, African beads, semi-precious stones, and metal chain and findings) to create a collision between modern and classic styles.  Maya takes her inspiration from the colors of nature, and from the periods of history in which her materials were created—but she celebrates her luck that she gets to wear pretty clothes, make her elegant jewelry, AND vote! This is Maya’s first Hullabaloo and we’re glad we voted HER in, so that she can offer you her handmade jewelry with its classic beauty and modern attitude!

Pterodactyl Pottery, Manchester, CT

George Hakkila is an award-winning ceramic sculptor who decided to work on some ideas he had for pottery, and started Pterodactyl Pottery as a way of pushing himself further. As he says “So far, so good,” and we agree wholeheartedly! The name implies a certain primitive and ancient aesthetic—and we would say that’s accurate…if by “primitive” you mean simple, earthy elegance and by “ancient” you mean timeless and traditional. George’s pots, plates, jugs, bowls, vases, and jars are beautiful and expertly constructed, and the way he uses texture and glazes would blow the mind of any caveman. We love his masculine-yet-sophisticated lidded jars to keep desks neat (perfect gifts for messy guys), the saki-sized cups, and the gorgeous oversized salt-fired serving plates. Check them out and say hello to George at his first Hullabaloo!
