Vendor Feature: Rockerbox Spice Co., Sawkill Farm, Mavis Studio, and Hodge Podge

We’re sorry you had to wait till the end to hear about these vendors…but we bet you met some other cool people while you waited, right? This is our biggest, best year yet and we absolutely can’t wait to bring all these fantastic people together for your shopping pleasure in just a few days! In the meantime, read a little more about the last four amazing Hullabalooers to be featured on the blog!

Rockerbox Spice Co., Hudson, NY

Rama’s roots (nope, this isn’t another bad pun—garlic is a bulb, silly!) trace back to four generations of garlic growers (check out the photo on her website of the garlic planter her grandfather brought over from Sicily!). This lineage has not only provided her with an appreciation of the stinking rose, but also access to fantastic, locally-grown garlic! Turning a family tradition into an innovative business for herself, Rama began creating garlic and onion powders, and savory mixes like Fiesta, Italian, BBQ, Sweet Corn rub, and gift sets! She dehydrates and grinds the bulbs herself, which makes her product FAR superior than anything you’ll find in the grocery store. Plus, she’s got a talented palate to help her come up with great flavor combinations. Her beautifully packaged spices are fantastic gifts for gourmets, hostesses, and anyone on your list who could use a little spice in their life! They make GREAT stocking stuffers too! This is Rama’s second Hullabaloo and we can’t wait to visit her and stock our pantry with flavor! You should too! 

Sawkill Farm, Red Hook, NY

Along with her family, Kallie of Sawkill Farm raises cows, pigs, sheep, and chickens for meat, which they sell at their farm store and at farmers’ markets in NYC. They try to utilize as much of the animal as possible, leaving as little waste as they can—to that end, they’ve developed a line of beef tallow-based soaps that they make and package on the farm, plus sheep skins, and yarn produced completely from their own wool! We’re big proponents of the nose-to-tail concept, so we’re so thrilled to be welcoming Sawkill Farm to their first Hullabaloo, where they’ll be selling these products! Their soaps are made from 100% natural, local ingredients, using traditional processes with leaf lard and beef tallow as the basis. They don’t use any preservatives, artificial ingredients, or other junk in their soaps, and they’re GORGEOUSLY packaged to make perfect “little something” gifts or stocking stuffers. Their sheep skins are all one-of-a-kind, because they raise different wool breeds. What do you use sheep skins for? Well, just about anything, really!  Add interest to a couch or comfort to a chair, use it as an area rug (they are soil-resistant!), add an extra layer of warmth at the foot of your bed, or even use it as a funky table runner (trust us, we saw some pretty cool pics on some design blogs)! Google it for inspiration, then head to Sawkill Farm’s table and bring your sheep skin vision to life!

Mavis Studio, Asbury Park, NJ

We just LOVE Mavis Studio’s earthy, minimal, clean, and modern housewares, like wood planters, plant stands, air plant holders, candle holders, furniture, and textiles. With their signature pops of color and elegant lines, her work is somehow colorful yet neutral, fitting in perfectly with any type of décor. Her pieces make perfect gifts for hostesses, friends, co-workers, family, and anyone who loves fresh, modern design combined with practical functionality. Stephanie has a background in architecture and design, and has applied that to express herself through creating beautiful, usable objects with her own hands. This is Stephanie’s first Hullabaloo and we’re so glad to have her participating! Stop by and see what she’s got for the plant-lover or décor enthusiast on your list this holiday season!

Hodge Podge, Accord, NY

Cal Patch, a designer who’s worked for Urban Outfitters, run her own shop in Brooklyn, and helped found hipster craft school MAKE, now focuses on writing articles and books on crafting, doing freelance design work for some pretty impressive clients, and teaching crafts at various locations in New York (often on how to make your own clothes). Hodge Podge is her line of handmade clothing which includes crocheted hats, cowls, hand-dyed silk and wool scarves, clothing, and accessories. She also has giftable items like cozies and will be showing off her new journal covers, Altoid tin sewing kits, wrist warmers, and blanket plaid hoody ponchos at Hullabaloo! Her style is a colorful patchwork (see what we did there?) of funky, bohemian, colorful hipness and it’s all comfy and completely wearable. Stop by Cal’s table at her third Hullabaloo and ask about her class schedule too! We’re so psyched she’s back!

Vendor Feature: Red & Brown, Harp & Thistle, Tess & James, and L+M Studio

What do these four vendors have in common? They make great teams! Sometimes entrepreneurship can feel a little lonely, but these pairs have got a supportive spouse or a fabulous friend at their side, taking the crazy, creative ride with them! Many of our vendors are dynamic duos…meet a few of them who make amazing things together…

Red & Brown, Poughkeepsie, NY

Drawing from their backgrounds in event planning, catering, consulting, and production, Lauren (“Red”) and Jake (“Brown”) offer party planning, cocktail development, and other consulting services—and of course, their line of “the most delicious, high-quality cocktail products [they] think you’ve ever tasted,” which they’ll be offering at Hullabaloo! Their current offering includes Bloody Mary Mixers, Smoked Campfire Maple Syrup (the only smoked syrup on the market!), and Sweet & Spicy cocktail nuts.  Red & Brown’s products are FANTASTIC gifts for any cocktail enthusiast on your list, and they make great hostess gifts too…Plus, you’ll also want to keep some provisions on hand for holiday entertaining, of course. We’re thrilled that Red & Brown will be joining us for Hullabaloo and bringing their products to Kingston! Stop by their table and try their Maple Egg Creams!

Harp and Thistle Stitchery, Poughquag, NY

Erin and Corey of Harp and Thistle are Irish (Harp) and Scottish (Thistle), respectively. Using an ancient rug-hooking technique called punch needle (or needle punch), Erin painstakingly creates her adorable ornaments, wall hangings, wearable art, sachets, and more. Then Corey frames them, takes photos, and ships sales! Just in time for Thanksgiving and the winter holidays, Erin is stocked with pieces featuring pumpkin pie, cornucopias, Christmas trees, Santas and more! There are also quirky and whimsical everyday pieces like sushi rolls, her signature avocados, pretzels, anatomical hearts, and “beards of Brooklyn,” plus more traditional pieces like flora and fauna, snowmen, and Scandinavian folk art. The best thing about Harp and Thistle’s work?  They’ve got such seemingly-random-yet-charming-things that make the perfect gift for all those quirky people on your list. Seriously, what else could you get your beekeeper friend besides a punch needle honeycomb hoop? Need a teacher gift? The Back to School Little Red School House, of course. Admiring Corey’s beard? Erin’s immortalized it in punch needle, so it can be yours forever! We’re pumped to have Erin and Corey back for their third Hullabaloo! Stop by their table and make it a good one!

Tess & James, Rhinebeck, NY

Tess& James began with oatmeal baths that founder Jess made for her kids (Tess and James, of course) who had dry skin. One thing led to another and she teamed up with her friend and neighbor Angela, to make bath porridges and salts, lip balms, face masks, candles, and more…all from the best ingredients, packaged in ways that make the products feel luxurious before you’ve even opened them! Their pampering bath products are a great way to relax during the stress of the holiday season, detox after you’ve indulged in too much cheer, and nourish your skin in the dry winter air. They’ve also got a ton of lip balms in kid-friendly flavors and cute packaging that will encourage your little ones to hydrate those chapped lips. Tess & James uses natural, organic, and therapeutic-grade ingredients that feel great and smell amazing. They make such a great presentation too, so pick up a couple of jars as gifts for someone you want to impress. This is Jess and Angela’s second Hullabaloo and we’re thrilled to have them back! 

l+m studio, Catskill, NY

Lucie and Meg are L+M studio, makers of slip cast porcelain items for the home and garden. From their own recipe, they make white porcelain and design, make, glaze, and fire the pieces in their store-front in Catskill. The coolest thing about their work is that (while their sleek, modern aesthetic suggests otherwise) function trumps form. They set out to make containers and inhabitants for living things, and those living things are going to be mighty comfortable. Their birdhouses have a flanged lid for cleaning. Their cups are designed to actually be held by hands and drunk from by lips. Their vases and planters are designed to show off the natural beauty they contain. But what they’re most excited about? Their new noodle bowls! We CAN’T WAIT to slurp some ramen out of one of those beautiful vessels! Need a thoughtful gift for someone who loves minimal design, clean lines, AND noodles? Vendor Feature: Andrew Molleur Studio, Upstate Diary, Aubry, and Rebecca Peacock Jewelry

“New” is the common theme among today’s featured vendors…Here, we’ll tell you more abouttwo returning vendors bringing new products and expanded lines to this year’s event, a new-to-Hullabaloo woodcarving couple practicing a traditional craft, and a brand new publication joining us this year to introduce their gorgeous first issue! 

Andrew Molleur Studio, Kingston, NY

Andrew utilizes traditional and modern techniques to design and construct his low-production functional inlaid ceramic pieces. His vases, trays, planters, mugs, bowls, and other vessels reflect Andrew’s influences from architecture and design, resulting in distinct pieces that combine clean lines, geometric fragments, and textural experiences. This is Andrew’s second Hullabaloo and this year he’s bringing new forms and colors that he’s been integrating to his cohesive collection. Got someone on your holiday shopping list who appreciates minimalist design? Andrew’s work is a sure bet to be their favorite gift all season! 

Upstate Diary, Hudson Valley, NY

Upstate Diary is a new publication that focuses on the creators that call the area home, and the lifestyles they cultivate. UD celebrates “the creative possibilities that thrive in communities outside of city limits” and explores the ways the region’s natural beauty and rural ways of life inform and influence the artists they feature. Issue One of this beautiful 9x12 format magazine features interviews and intimate photo essays featuring visual artist Carrie Mae Weems (on race and inequality in art), filmmaker Marianna Rothen (on farm life and distress), and architect Angela Patterson (on Calvin Klein signature shops and barn design). Aubry, Lenox, MA

Inspired by a random book read during some down-time from their farm, Matthew and Kyra Hart began to create hand-carved wooden spoons, lathed-turned bowls, and other wooden pots and vessels. In this “throwaway” culture, they set out to make pieces that would become family heirlooms and carry with them the stories of family gatherings and memories of good company.  As is immediately apparent when you see—and touch (you won’t be able to restrain yourself!)—their gorgeous handcrafted pieces, they’ve succeeded. Their work makes a beautiful, thoughtful gift for anyone who loves to cook, or loves to eat. We love their beautiful stirring spoons as hostess gifts (that spoon will be stirring pots for generations to come!) and their gorgeous bowls for newlyweds (to serve them as they grow old together!). This is Aubry’s first Hullabaloo so give them a warm welcome! 

Rebecca Peacock Jewelry, Kingston, NY

Rebecca’s geometrically-inspired designs combine understated elegance with socially-responsible luxury. Rebecca uses repurposed materials and materials sourced with ethical, sustainable, and fair work practices in mind. She expertly transforms 14- and 18- karat gold, diamonds, and semi-precious gemstones into rings, earrings, and necklaces that are simple and casual, yet indulgent. In addition to her delicately edgy, classically modern jewelry, Rebecca makes metal spoons and other tablewear, and has increased her offering just in time for her third Hullabaloo!
