Vendor Feature: Escape Brooklyn, Book Meat Studio, Fox & Castle, Wishbone Letterpress

From cards to collectibles, Hullabaloo has got you covered this holiday season! Got someone on your list who loves rust and rarities? A literature lover or fiber freak? A friend with low-maintenance style?  How about a clever correspondent? You’ll want to check out these vendors…

Escape Brooklyn, Brooklyn, NY

We know you’ve been reading along as Erin and Denny (everyone’s favorite blogging couple!) provide travel itineraries, share their favorite hot spots, and discover hidden treasures as they head north from Crown Heights to explore the nooks and crannies of the Hudson Valley and surrounding regions. But did you know that they also curate an amazing collection of vintage finds, and participate in some of the area’s markets, selling the treasures they’ve found in their travels? In their online shop The Brew & Compass (currently on hiatus as they gear up for market season) and on their Instagram, you’ll find oddities like taxidermy frogs chugging beers, collectibles like beautifully detailed anatomy posters, antiques like wooden arrows, and rustic décor like cow horn mirrors—just to name a few favorites from their recent picks! We CAN’T WAIT to see what they’ve collected for their first Hullabaloo!

Book Meat Studio, Kingston, NY

Book Meat Studio (aka, Kat) is obsessed with fibers, paper, thread, and yarn—what she sees as the connective tissue in art. She hand-makes her beautiful wall hangings, embroideries, bound books, and zines right here in Kingston, using neutral palettes and varying textures to create an aesthetic experience. All her paper and fiber art pieces are somehow simultaneously sassy and serene! We just love the hoop art featuring quotes from literary heroines and lines of poetry, the gorgeous journals, the intimate zines and artist’s books, and the expertly woven wall hangings. We can’t wait to get shopping for all our literary friends! We are so psyched to welcome Book Meat Studio to her first Hullabaloo!

Fox & Castle, Stormville, NY

Each piece in Fox and Castle’s collection of no-fuss fine jewelry and accessories is individually handcrafted by Micah, using only ethically sourced natural materials and traditional techniques. There’s an understated edginess and rough elegance to each—whether crafted using hand-mined NYS Herkimer diamonds, or Cherokee Reservation deer skin (either beautifully complimented by sterling silver, 14k gold, or polished brass). Because the materials have their own stories, the result is a unique, timeless piece with a character and charm all its own. She also sells sachets stuffed with organic sage as well as other textile products perfect for gift giving. Micah’s jewelry is designed to complement any style—not distract from it. With this intent in mind, her pieces have a wide appeal and the ability to make any style seem effortless. Check out Fox & Castle’s table at her first Hullabaloo and cross some ladies off your holiday shopping list!

Wishbone Letterpress, Kingston, NY

You guys know, Danielle and Joe, right? Danielle is not only the founder and co-organizer of Hullabaloo, she’s got this awesome letterpress company. Combining an antique process with fresh, modern designs and their signature wit and edginess, Danielle and Joe hand-print cards, coasters, calendars, and other products on their 50-100 year old presses. They also offer wedding invitations, business cards, and custom pieces. Looking for off-beat greetings? Save the Hallmark cards for your grandma—your friends will appreciate a “Creep it real” card, and how can any girl resist a “You wake my snake” love note? They’ve also got some more traditional options—including holiday cards—to round out their offering and appeal to the more conservative folks on your mailing list (in case scary Santa isn’t quite appropriate). Going to a party? Bring along some super cool Wishbone coasters—any hostess will appreciate a guest who’s looking out for her furniture.

Vendor Features: Berkshire Bakes, Etude Pottery, Weird Beard Candle Co., and CeCe’s Wool

Our Third Annual Hullabaloo is our biggest yet—we’ve made room for 15 more vendors than we had last year, and we’re welcoming 40 first-time Hullabaloo vendors (out of 73 total) this year! Below, you’ll learn more about four Hullabaloo newbies, and why we wanted to make them a part of this year’s event!

Berkshire Bakes, Pittsfield, MA

Hullabaloo is just a few days before Thanksgiving, and who has time to bake? Let Berkshire Bakes do it for you! Berkshire Bakes is a small-batch, hand-made baking company, with a scrumptious offering including cookies, croissants, scones, muffins, pies, cupcakes, and other desserts. Their goodies are pre-packaged and ready to bring with you to Thanksgiving dinner, surprising someone special with a treat, or bringing home for later (see if they make it past Broadway!). Remember Mighty Brittle from last year, with those amazing little pies and the perfect brittle? Well, Mighty Brittle has combined with Berkshire Bakes (and what a combination it is!) so you can still get that brittle you’ve been craving all year, along with lots of other yummy things. Are you GF? Many of Berkshire Bakes’ items are available in gluten-free versions, because they believe that everyone deserves to enjoy handmade desserts! So stop by and say hello to Ashley of Berkshire Bakes and welcome her to her first Hullabaloo—you won’t be able to walk away empty-handed!

Etude Pottery, Troy, NY

Dana (“Etsy admin by day, potter by night”) uses a b-mix porcelain to create her unique, functional pottery that will make that will make every day more special! Whether you start your day with a big ‘ol mug of coffee in one of Dana’s mugs, eat your dinner out of an Etude bowl, end your day surrounded by her lovely home décor pieces, or all three (lucky you!), Dana’s unique pieces make your routine feel like a luxury. All her pieces are thrown on the wheel and altered, and all her stamped designs are created using stamps she’s created herself—the results are unique pieces that she then glazes with hand-mixed, food-safe glazes. Her mugs, cups, bowls, and more make great gifts—I mean, can you think of a better gift for that hard-to-buy-for person than a beautiful piece they’ll use and love every.single.day (because they will!)? We didn’t think so! Stop by Etude Pottery’s table and welcome Dana to her first Hullabaloo!

Weird Beard Candle Co., Troy, NY

Remember what Saturday mornings used to smell like, back before Saturdays were for grocery shopping and yard work? Weird Beard Candle Co.’s “Saturday Morning Cartoons” candle will make you nostalgic for the days when you could sit around in your pajamas eating Crunch Berry cereal and watching Duck Tales! They’ve got lots of amazing scents—all small-batch, hand-poured, clean-burning, all-natural soy candles –that bring back memories, smell fantastic, and fit the Weird Beard motto: “stay weird.”  Just in time for Turkey Day, there’s “The One with All the Thanksgiving” (if cranberry, peach, apple, orange, and vanilla is weird, we don’t want to be normal). “Maplicious Bacon” (always a winning combination), “The Handicapper” (tobacco scented), or “The Winner’s Circle” (rose and leather) would be subtle (but appreciated!) hints for your guy to air out the man cave, while scents like “Mega Mandarin” (bright and citrusy) or “Uncle Ricky’s Chocolate Cream Pie” (no explanation needed) will get anyone’s mouth watering. These quirky candles are perfect as gifts or just to make your home a little merrier this holiday season. Stop by Weird Beard Candle Co.’s table and welcome them to their first Hullabaloo!

CeCe’s Wool, Delanson, NY

Got a furry friend? Stop at CeCe’s Wool’s table—it’s the perfect spot to get gifts for your best friend! CeCe’s Wool offers pet toys and beds filled with wool, and cat toys filled with catnip from her farm. CeCe’s takes her commitment to the environment and local farms seriously, using only wool from happy, healthy sheep she knows personally, and using local mills that practice eco-friendly processing methods. And because wool is warm in the winter and cool in the summer, lasts a long time, and naturally repels dust, dirt, microbes, and bacteria, it’s the natural choice for pet products. This is CeCe’s Wool’s first Hullabaloo and we know you (and your pet!) are going to love her products. But don’t just take our word for it: CeCe’s Wool was nominated for a Martha Stewart American Made award this year!

Vendor Feature: Andrew Molleur Studio, Upstate Diary, Aubry, and Rebecca Peacock Jewelry

“New” is the common theme among today’s featured vendors…Here, we’ll tell you more abouttwo returning vendors bringing new products and expanded lines to this year’s event, a new-to-Hullabaloo woodcarving couple practicing a traditional craft, and a brand new publication joining us this year to introduce their gorgeous first issue!

Andrew Molleur Studio, Kingston, NY

Andrew utilizes traditional and modern techniques to design and construct his low-production functional inlaid ceramic pieces. His vases, trays, planters, mugs, bowls, and other vessels reflect Andrew’s influences from architecture and design, resulting in distinct pieces that combine clean lines, geometric fragments, and textural experiences. This is Andrew’s second Hullabaloo and this year he’s bringing new forms and colors that he’s been integrating to his cohesive collection. Got someone on your holiday shopping list who appreciates minimalist design? Andrew’s work is a sure bet to be their favorite gift all season!

Upstate Diary, Hudson Valley, NY

Upstate Diary is a new publication that focuses on the creators that call the area home, and the lifestyles they cultivate. UD celebrates “the creative possibilities that thrive in communities outside of city limits” and explores the ways the region’s natural beauty and rural ways of life inform and influence the artists they feature. Issue One of this beautiful 9x12 format magazine features interviews and intimate photo essays featuring visual artist Carrie Mae Weems (on race and inequality in art), filmmaker Marianna Rothen (on farm life and distress), and architect Angela Patterson (on Calvin Klein signature shops and barn design). Get your copy of the inaugural issue of Upstate Diary at Hullabaloo—and start off a collection for someone with an appreciation for beautiful photography and insightful interviews. So much more than a magazine, Upstate Diary makes a great gift!

Aubry, Lenox, MA

Inspired by a random book read during some down-time from their farm, Matthew and Kyra Hart began to create hand-carved wooden spoons, lathed-turned bowls, and other wooden pots and vessels. In this “throwaway” culture, they set out to make pieces that would become family heirlooms and carry with them the stories of family gatherings and memories of good company.  As is immediately apparent when you see—and touch (you won’t be able to restrain yourself!)—their gorgeous handcrafted pieces, they’ve succeeded. Their work makes a beautiful, thoughtful gift for anyone who loves to cook, or loves to eat. We love their beautiful stirring spoons as hostess gifts (that spoon will be stirring pots for generations to come!) and their gorgeous bowls for newlyweds (to serve them as they grow old together!). This is Aubry’s first Hullabaloo so give them a warm welcome!

Rebecca Peacock Jewelry, Kingston, NY

Rebecca’s geometrically-inspired designs combine understated elegance with socially-responsible luxury. Rebecca uses repurposed materials and materials sourced with ethical, sustainable, and fair work practices in mind. She expertly transforms 14- and 18- karat gold, diamonds, and semi-precious gemstones into rings, earrings, and necklaces that are simple and casual, yet indulgent. In addition to her delicately edgy, classically modern jewelry, Rebecca makes metal spoons and other tablewear, and has increased her offering just in time for her third Hullabaloo! You know that last gift under the tree that you’ve been saving to the very end because it’s a small box that will make a huge impression? THAT’S the kind of gift Rebecca’s jewelry is!
