Kingston NY

vendors

Vendor Feature: Jay Teske Leather Co., A Night in Bloom Event Floristry, Silke Jacobs Bags & Accessories, and Hudson Imprints!

These four vendors are living proof that the area’s long history as a center for the arts lives on—on both sides of the river! From Kingston to Hudson, from leather to fabric, flora to (illustrated) fauna, these members of the Hullabaloo line-up are keeping traditions alive!

Jay Teske Leather Co., Kingston, NY

Jay and Hadas are the owners of Pirate Upholstery in Kingston, which offers custom motorcycle seats and leather craft. With Jay Teske Leather Co. they offer smaller accessories, and there’s only one word to describe them: Handsome. They’re inspired by vintage leather goods, which means they DO make them like they used to! Jay has not only revived the structured, classic look of the richest, most stylish leather goods, he’s also mastered the workmanship. His bags (briefcases, train cases, and bicycle bags), portfolios (SO gorgeously Hemingway-esque), accessories (belts, card cases, money clips, wallets, key fobs, luggage tags, etc.), and home goods (coasters, air plant holders, and other items) are the epitome of well-made and will last a lifetime, aging beautifully over time. The coolest part? Each piece is hand-cut from American hides and vegetable-tanned in one of the few remaining domestic leather tanneries (fun fact: those tanneries specialize in bridle leather). They’re finished with solid brass, stainless steel, and nickel-plated brass hardware.  Need a great gift for the gentleman on your list? Stop by Jay Teske Leather Co. during their second Hullabaloo!

A Night in Bloom Event Floristry, Kingston, NY

Heather is an award-winning florist who is joining us at Hullabaloo for the first time, and we’re super pumped about it! Her event floristry business in Kingston specializes in full-service and DIY floral design for events, as well as rentals of one-of-a-kind vintage pieces for special events (need an awesome vintage loveseat or a rustic chandelier for a day or two? She’s your girl.). At Hullabaloo, she’ll be offering festive (and scented!) holiday wreathes, and beautiful succulent gardens to spruce up (get it?) your home this holiday season. Deck your halls with one of Heather’s creations and your house will be the envy of the neighborhood. Succulent gardens make great gifts for hostesses, green thumbs (or even black thumbs, since they’re low maintenance), friends, and family too! So stop and sell the roses (or whatever else Heather may have on hand) at Hullabaloo!

Silke Jacobs Bags & Accessories, Germantown, NY

Silke grew up in Belgium, hearing the hum of her mother’s sewing machine…When she moved to the US in 2009, she decided to join the handmade movement herself! She uses high-quality, US-sourced materials in the loveliest patterns you can imagine (whimsical yet classic, hip without being trendy) to make totes, zipper bags, cosmetic bags, clutches, weekender bags, wallets, wristlets, pencil cases, and more. All her pieces are designed for maximum functionality and you won’t find better workmanship anywhere. (Trust me, we tend to overstuff! Always be prepared, right?) Her bags are amazing gifts for any lady, and with such a wide range of price points, there’s something for everyone, whether you haven’t even met them (darn those workplace Secret Santas) or you’ve known them all your life (even your hard-to-please older sister is sure to be thrilled with one of Silke’s gorgeous totes!). Silke also makes ADORABLE organic accessories for babies, so stock up on shower gifts! Silke, who’s also an Etsy admin, has been with us since the first Hullabaloo, and we’re SO glad!

Hudson_Imprints.jpg

Hudson Imprints, Hudson, NY

Hudson Imprints is a publisher of “fine art for the masses.” Their products feature work from up-and-coming local artists, masterpieces from the Hudson River School, and local historic images, and they source high-end stationery and art materials from their sister company, Sketch Art Supplies. At Hullabaloo, they’ll be showcasing the work of Kinderhook-based illustrator Emily Brooks, including her recently published work “The Bee Book.” This truly incredible piece is a site to bee-hold (ha!)…It’s a seven-layer folding/pop-up book with a honeycomb-like structure and tons of colorful, realistic illustrations and loads of fun facts. It’s a bee-utiful gift for the naturalist in your life, or anyone who appreciates a unique book that’s not just a story, but also a work of art. Hudson Imprints will also be offering one-of-a-kind coloring books that combine intricate geometry with botanical drawings, as well as holiday cards. The adult coloring book craze is here to stay (and with good reason! Just try worrying when you’re shading in that peony!) so why not jump on the bandwagon (or help a stressed friend find a new hobby!) This is Hudson Imprint’s first Hullabaloo and we’re glad they’ve joined us!

vendors

Vendor Feature: Red & Brown, Harp & Thistle, Tess & James, and L+M Studio

What do these four vendors have in common? They make great teams! Sometimes entrepreneurship can feel a little lonely, but these pairs have got a supportive spouse or a fabulous friend at their side, taking the crazy, creative ride with them! Many of our vendors are dynamic duos…meet a few of them who make amazing things together…

Red & Brown, Poughkeepsie, NY

Drawing from their backgrounds in event planning, catering, consulting, and production, Lauren (“Red”) and Jake (“Brown”) offer party planning, cocktail development, and other consulting services—and of course, their line of “the most delicious, high-quality cocktail products [they] think you’ve ever tasted,” which they’ll be offering at Hullabaloo! Their current offering includes Bloody Mary Mixers, Smoked Campfire Maple Syrup (the only smoked syrup on the market!), and Sweet & Spicy cocktail nuts.  Red & Brown’s products are FANTASTIC gifts for any cocktail enthusiast on your list, and they make great hostess gifts too…Plus, you’ll also want to keep some provisions on hand for holiday entertaining, of course. We’re thrilled that Red & Brown will be joining us for Hullabaloo and bringing their products to Kingston! Stop by their table and try their Maple Egg Creams!

Harp and Thistle Stitchery, Poughquag, NY

Erin and Corey of Harp and Thistle are Irish (Harp) and Scottish (Thistle), respectively. Using an ancient rug-hooking technique called punch needle (or needle punch), Erin painstakingly creates her adorable ornaments, wall hangings, wearable art, sachets, and more. Then Corey frames them, takes photos, and ships sales! Just in time for Thanksgiving and the winter holidays, Erin is stocked with pieces featuring pumpkin pie, cornucopias, Christmas trees, Santas and more! There are also quirky and whimsical everyday pieces like sushi rolls, her signature avocados, pretzels, anatomical hearts, and “beards of Brooklyn,” plus more traditional pieces like flora and fauna, snowmen, and Scandinavian folk art. The best thing about Harp and Thistle’s work?  They’ve got such seemingly-random-yet-charming-things that make the perfect gift for all those quirky people on your list. Seriously, what else could you get your beekeeper friend besides a punch needle honeycomb hoop? Need a teacher gift? The Back to School Little Red School House, of course. Admiring Corey’s beard? Erin’s immortalized it in punch needle, so it can be yours forever! We’re pumped to have Erin and Corey back for their third Hullabaloo! Stop by their table and make it a good one!

Tess & James, Rhinebeck, NY

Tess& James began with oatmeal baths that founder Jess made for her kids (Tess and James, of course) who had dry skin. One thing led to another and she teamed up with her friend and neighbor Angela, to make bath porridges and salts, lip balms, face masks, candles, and more…all from the best ingredients, packaged in ways that make the products feel luxurious before you’ve even opened them! Their pampering bath products are a great way to relax during the stress of the holiday season, detox after you’ve indulged in too much cheer, and nourish your skin in the dry winter air. They’ve also got a ton of lip balms in kid-friendly flavors and cute packaging that will encourage your little ones to hydrate those chapped lips. Tess & James uses natural, organic, and therapeutic-grade ingredients that feel great and smell amazing. They make such a great presentation too, so pick up a couple of jars as gifts for someone you want to impress. This is Jess and Angela’s second Hullabaloo and we’re thrilled to have them back!

l+m studio, Catskill, NY

Lucie and Meg are L+M studio, makers of slip cast porcelain items for the home and garden. From their own recipe, they make white porcelain and design, make, glaze, and fire the pieces in their store-front in Catskill. The coolest thing about their work is that (while their sleek, modern aesthetic suggests otherwise) function trumps form. They set out to make containers and inhabitants for living things, and those living things are going to be mighty comfortable. Their birdhouses have a flanged lid for cleaning. Their cups are designed to actually be held by hands and drunk from by lips. Their vases and planters are designed to show off the natural beauty they contain. But what they’re most excited about? Their new noodle bowls! We CAN’T WAIT to slurp some ramen out of one of those beautiful vessels! Need a thoughtful gift for someone who loves minimal design, clean lines, AND noodles? Stop by L+M’s table! They couldn’t make the last Hullabaloo, and we’re so thrilled they’re back to join us in 2015!

vendors

Vendor Feature: PetitFelts, Good Fight Herb Co., Lock & Key Leathers, Jewels by JaimeLynn, and Lovefield Vintage

We’ve worked hard to curate an event that offers something for everyone—for everyone on your gift list, for anyone’s budget, and to cater to many different tastes and interests. These five Hullabalooers are great examples of the diversity in our vendors…Whether you’re looking for a super-special gift for a new baby’s nursery, want to encourage a healthier lifestyle, need a present for a restless traveler, want to give a piece of everyday elegance, or are looking mix up your wardrobe with some timeless articles of clothing, Hullabaloo has got a vendor for you!

PetitFelts, Copake, NY

Jocelyn hand-dyes and needle-felts little critters with big personalities! She puts a ton of love into every one, carefully sculpting them into realistic miniatures and giving each an expression and a story (Gertrude the Octopus used to terrorize ships, but she’s given that up to lead underwater tours; Rimbaud the swan wants you to know he’s more than just his graceful good looks!). Jocelyn’s animals are accurate down to every last detail and fascinating to admire. Her pieces can be used as finger puppets and are great for interacting with children of all ages. However, they are also delicate artwork and some even have tiny party hats, so it’s best to consider them more decorative than playthings. Sit them on a shelf and they can be enjoyed for years to come! In addition to the finger puppet pieces, Jocelyn makes brooches (which can also serve as ornaments or be mounted on the wall like tiny, felted taxidermy) and has added mobiles to her line. This is Jocelyn’s first Hullabaloo and we are so thrilled to have her and help her charming creatures find good homes!

Good Fight Herb Co., Germantown, NY

With some help from their “medicinal herbs for mighty health,” Lauren of Good Fight Herb Co. reassures you that “you are good medicine.” An herbalist, healer, and educator, Lauren grows, gathers, and sources the organic herbs used in her blends, sprays, tonics, tinctures, and other natural remedies. She’s got the solution for whatever ails you—whether you’re broken-hearted (Self-Love Potion #9), are battling anxiety during a difficult time (Deep Breath De-Stress Blend), need a good night’s sleep (Sleep Tight), or are battling the sniffles (Kick a Cold Blend).  She’s also got some little items that can be packaged with her remedies for a great gift! Want to bring an ailing friend something better than chicken soup? Wrap up Lauren’s Kick a Cold Blend with a handmade hanky! Somebody need a little reminder to take their medicine? A medicine shot pot, made custom for Good Fight, pairs perfectly with any potion! This is Good Fight’s first Hullabaloo, so stop by to stay well!

Lock & Key Leathers, Kingston, NY

Crystal of Lock & Key Leathers considers each of her bags a story…from how the bag drapes when it’s held to where she sources her materials—so much goes into each piece that sometimes she dreams all night about making patterns, or is up at night worrying about details like how long to make the handles of a new tote. The love and attention to detail that goes into each of Crystal’s bags is apparent in the fine workmanship and beautiful designs. Made of leather and waxed canvas, much of her work is intentionally well-loved-looking, because they’re made for adventurers with wanderlust. Whether it’s a ruggedly luxurious tote, a distressed cross-body bag, a beautifully battered wallet, a wonderfully worn clutch, or some other accessory, your new favorite will feel like an old, familiar favorite. She’s been collaborating with her husband too, and he’s now tooling his artwork on some of Crystal’s pieces, to make them extra-special!  The best part? The more you use them, the more character they collect. It’s Crystal’s third Hullabaloo and we’re so glad she’s been with us from the beginning.

Jewels by JaimeLynn, Delmar, NY

We love Jaime’s delicate, feminine jewelry, which she describes as “simple jewelry for everyday, graceful wear” that are designed to enhance your natural beauty. Using high-quality gemstones and precious metals, Jaime has added gold to her line since last year, when she primarily worked in silver. Jaime’s work is refreshingly uncomplicated, allowing the beauty of the materials to really shine through. We LOVE her stackable gemstone bar bracelets, and her understated necklaces that are perfect for layering. Wouldn’t any lady on your shopping list love to find a box from Jewels by JaimeLynn in her stocking? We know we would! You can’t go wrong with her versatile pieces that look great on anyone, no matter what their style! We’re so happy to have Jaime back!

Lovefield Vintage, Kingston, NY

Imagine the best styles and pieces from every era…What do you see? The racks of Lovefield Vintage? Because that’s what comes to mind for us! What are you coveting right now? Darbie just might have it—or can find it! Everything on Lovefield’s racks is there because Darbie loves it (not just because it’s old) and has a vision for how it can be mixed with other finds from various periods and styles.  Darbie’s collection is so carefully curated and she’s got such an eye for picking out unique pieces and putting them together with other awesome things! She’s got everything from 60s cocktail frocks to 90s ruffled baby doll blouses—and men’s stuff too, like well-worn denim, vintage tees and flannels…Shoes, jewelry, and other accessories have a place on her shelves too. We’re thrilled to have Darbie back for her second Hullabaloo, and we can’t wait to see what she’s found for us this year!
